The course consists of a total of 12 hours of lessons divided into 8 sessions + Teaching Practice + tutorial. Live online attendance from Monday to Friday (15:00-16:30 / 16:45-18:15). The program follows:

  • Day 1: “Teaching Young Learners – what’s it all about?” (session 1) and “Classroom Management” (session 2)
  • Day 2: “Puzzles and Patterns – making grammar fun” (session 3) and “Songs and Chants – learning through music and movement” (session 4)
  • Day 3: “Activity bank – Build up your bank of classroom activities” (session 5) and “Early literacy and developing skills” (session 6)
  • Day 4: “Teaching YL Online – adapting what you’ve learned for distance learning” (session 7) and “Lesson planning workshop” (session 8)
  • Day 5: Peer teaching collaborative task and feedback

All trainees will then have the opportunity to peer teach online, putting their new skills into practice and receiving feedback from the tutors. There are no written assignments or coursework.

To be admitted to the course, a minimum C1 level of English is required as well as an initial teaching qualification (CELTA or equivalent) and some previous teaching experience. Please note that no particular experience in teaching children is required as this course is just for beginners.

It is a one week long course which provides teachers with the initial tools to start teaching children from age 6 to 11.

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at teachers who have taken their CELTA and want to broaden their knowledge in the area of Young Learners. It is also suitable for experienced teachers of adults who want to move into working with children.

The course will be delivered completely online. Please note that like all of our online Teacher Training courses, this course is 100% live. Trainees and tutors are together as a group in real-time for the duration of the course.
